What each extension offers

Both products advertise browser assistance for reading, rewriting and questions about page content. Monica's current plan page also lists an agent, research, slides and image/video features. MaxAI lists PDF/YouTube reading, rewriting and image generation. The older claim that MaxAI has no image generation is incorrect.

Their subscription does not reproduce every feature of each model provider's own app. Select the task you actually need before comparing long feature lists.

Compare the same browser task

For a sidebar workflow, check whether the extension captures the selected paragraph or the whole page. Then test navigation, follow-up questions and copying the answer. Count the actions yourself; there is no measured faster-product winner in this review.

Record the actual picker label, plan and date. If the model changes after a quota is used, note the fallback rather than treating its answer as the same test. A provider name alone does not establish browsing, context length or agent access.

A page-reading pilot you can reproduce

Choose a public article with a heading, date, named figure and a qualification such as “preliminary.” Save its URL and the passage. Ask both tools for a five-bullet summary, each linked to the exact supporting sentence.

Accept a summary only if all five points are supported, the date and units are correct, qualifications remain and a follow-up locates the evidence. If the page cannot be read, supply the same excerpt to both and record that change. Missing access is not proof that the model cannot summarize.

A writing check that catches invented promises

Use this fictional text: “Order P-18 has not shipped. The customer asks for size L; availability is unknown. A change requires stock confirmation.” Ask for a polite reply of at most 80 words that preserves all facts and makes no shipping or stock promise.

Reject a rewrite that says L is reserved, delivery is guaranteed or an unsupported refund rule applies. Record correction time and repeat with the order already shipped. This is a suggested pilot, not an experiment we performed.

The rendered Monica English page shows Pro at US$8.30/month equivalent with US$99 annual billing; Max at US$16.60/month equivalent with US$199 annual billing (displayed promotion); Ultra at US$82.90/month equivalent with US$995 annual billing. These are annual commitments, not those prices billed every month.

Monica Free lists 40 basic queries/day; Pro lists 5,000 basic and 200 advanced queries/month plus 1,500 advanced credits. Queries and credits are different allowances. Max/Ultra “unlimited” labels also have fair-use conditions in the credit-rules help page; verify your account's actual limits.

Current maxai.co pricing shows Free with unlimited Free chat and three Pro chats/day; Pro is US$12/member/month billed yearly or US$30 billed monthly, and includes image generation. The legacy maxai.me page still shows different Elite/Pro offers. Use the current purchase route and confirm renewal, total and cancellation; do not mix the two pages or call their free quotas directly equivalent.

Monica's August service-transition notice applied to affected accounts/regions and described an August 23–25 maintenance/deletion window. It is not a global shutdown notice.
